It's only pretty when it's nasty
Lordi is well known for their infamous unique and detailed monster-look. Mr L came up with the concept of monster outfits in 1994. He has been always interested in horror and created numerous monster masks and outfits for short movies.
The outfits are renewed to brand new ones always for the new studio album. However, because the look must follow the character, the main idea of each member's outfit stays the same so the change can be called as "evolution". The massive outfits are designed by Lordi themselves and created from latex, studs and leather by the professional make-up artist and sculptor, Mr L with little help from friends. It takes a few months for Mr L to create the new outfit line-up ready to use.
One basic Lordi tradition is high quality promo pictures of every outfit line-up; pictures of the whole band together and every band member singly. As the name already says, these pics are meant for promotional use but in Lordi's case they also offer fans a chance to take a good look in the details! Of course, the outfits look a little different after the promo shoots. The schedules are too hasty and usually the outfits are not fully finished for the photo sessions day. Another reason is the usage of the outfits; there happens a lot of fixing, replacing and repainting all the time.
The very first pictures were taken in 1997 to promote the album "Bend Over And Pray The Lord!" but the album was never released and the pics were never used.
